As the US elections pave the path for many major decisions in 2024, John Kerry, who stepped down from his position as a climate envoy, emphasized that the Presidential elections will bring a notable difference to global climate fights.
In an interview with Bloomberg TV at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Kerry said the transition to a low carbon economy is on the cards and there’s no going back from it as many companies, big and small, have invested millions for a green move.
“General Motors, Ford, Volkswagen, Hyundai and Toyota have spent billions retooling their plants,” Kerry said. “It doesn’t matter who the president of the US is, these CEOs won’t go back.”
Apple Inc, Microsoft Corp, and Boeing Co are part of the First Movers Coalition, an initiative established by Kerry in 2021, to encourage big companies in the technology and industrial sectors to make eco-friendly changes.
“The marketplace is going to support this transition and it’s irrevocable now — we’re going to get there,” Kerry told BloombergTV. “The only question is if we’re going to get there in time to not be ravaged by the worst consequences of the climate crisis.”
Every year the US spends millions of dollars on clean power and green technologies under the Inflation Reduction Act. However, Biden’s new climate law faces a lot of opposition due to its built-in hurdles.
