The Biden administration has introduced new energy-saving rules for kitchen stoves to cut utility bills and enhance reliability. These rules won’t prohibit gas stoves.
They set energy-use limits for both gas and electric stoves and are expected to save consumers about $1.6 billion in energy costs over 30 years, according to the Energy Department.
These standards, mandated by Congress, will be enforced from 2028. While the Energy Department never planned to ban gas stoves, the topic gained attention after a suggestion from a Consumer Product Safety Commission official, sparking political discussions about air pollution concerns.
The Energy Department mentioned that these standards would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by almost 4 million metric tons over 30 years.
This is approximately the same as the combined yearly emissions linked to the energy use of 500,000 households.
