According to sources reported by the BBC on Wednesday, Britain’s opposition Labour Party is withdrawing its £28 billion ($35.34 billion) commitment to invest in green energy.
However, the party still intends to include the creation of a publicly-owned green power company in its Green Prosperity Plan, albeit with some adjustments.
Labour has tried to present itself as the sole party capable of boosting economic growth through significant investments in green technologies and jobs.
Nevertheless, its commitment to invest £28 billion annually until 2030 in green technologies faced criticism from those concerned about potential increases in borrowing costs.
The plan, initially introduced in 2021, was scaled down by the party in June last year due to anticipated higher interest rates.
They stated that the target would need to be achieved gradually. The party is anticipated to make an official announcement about this on Thursday.
