Green advocates welcome the prospect of a Kamala Harris presidency, noting her robust environmental record, which starkly contrasts with Donald Trump’s pledge to roll back climate change policies if re-elected to the White House.

“We are confident that she is ready to carry forward President Biden’s historic legacy and set a new high bar for climate ambition in America,” said Lena Moffitt, executive director of Evergreen, one of a raft of green groups, including Sierra Club, League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, the NRDC Action Fund, and Climate Power, that has now endorsed the leading contender for the Democratic nomination.
Joe Biden, in his letter, on Sunday, confirmed that he will drop his bid to be re-elected president, calling the bill “the most significant climate legislation in the history of the world”.
“President Harris would kick ass against Trump,” said Gina McCarthy, Biden’s former chief climate adviser.

“She has spent her whole life committed to justice, fighting for the underdog, and making sure that no one is above the law. She will fight every day for all Americans to have access to clean air, clean water and a healthy environment,” McCarthy added.
Harris has been actively involved in environmental issues since the early days of her career two decades ago. As San Francisco’s district attorney, she established one of the United States’ inaugural environmental justice units.
During her tenure as California’s attorney general, Harris achieved significant milestones, including securing multimillion-dollar settlements from Volkswagen for installing emissions-cheating software in their vehicles.
Additionally, she successfully pursued legal actions against oil giants Phillips 66 and ConocoPhillips for environmental infractions.
