On Friday, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) released a notice of intent to fund projects that aim to decrease methane emissions from the oil and gas industries.
The message was issued to provide applicants ample time to prepare proposals and establish partnerships, if necessary, in anticipation of the forthcoming funding opportunity announcement.
“Methane is a climate super pollutant that is more potent than carbon dioxide,” EPA said in the release.
In 2023, emissions from power plants notably dropped in the 10 US states involved in the “Good Neighbor” plan, yet the program has not yet launched in 12 other states.
