In a press release on Tuesday, power supplier Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) announced its decision to retire the Kingston Fossil Plant and construct an energy complex at the site by the end of 2027.
According to the release, the company intends to decommission all nine coal-fired units at Kingston. The new energy complex is slated to include natural gas, solar energy, and battery storage facilities.

“The natural gas generation will be in operation prior to Kingston Fossil Plant retirement to maintain reliable, uninterrupted power to our customers,” it said.
In the meantime, TVA will persist in assessing the viability of retiring and replacing the remaining coal fleet with alternative generation sources.
