US Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Jon Ossoff (D-GA) unveiled a significant stride towards clean energy initiatives in rural Georgia. Through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), a slate of new federal investments will empower farmers and business owners to embrace solar and electric energy upgrades.
Senator Warnock, a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, emphasized the dual benefits of these investments. “Delivering clean energy investments that will help farmers and business owners in rural Georgia lower their energy costs and save money is a win-win for our economy and our environment,” stated Warnock. He underscored the alignment of these initiatives with the vision laid out in the Inflation Reduction Act, legislation that he and Senator Ossoff championed.
Senator Ossoff echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the significance of energy security and independence for Georgia’s rural sectors. “Senator Warnock and I continue to champion energy security and energy independence to lower energy costs for Georgia’s farmers and businesses,” Ossoff remarked, expressing gratitude to President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Secretary Vilsack for their support.
The funding, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, amounts to $2 million for renewable energy and energy efficiency improvement grants. These grants will benefit agricultural producers and rural small business owners across 14 counties in rural Georgia. In total, 17 projects are slated to receive funding, promising over $230,000 per year in energy savings.
The announcement marks a significant step towards sustainable energy practices in Georgia’s rural landscape, promising economic benefits and environmental stewardship for the communities involved.
