In a press release, Beagle Systems, an air data acquisition company, announced its collaboration with AIRMO. The two organizations have joined forces to create an innovative monitoring service for methane emissions.
The intention behind creating the methane monitoring service is to address the increasing requirements of EU regulations on methane emissions. The partnership aims to provide accurate data for environmental monitoring.
The EU Methane Regulation will require operators of pipelines and plants to precisely record methane emissions every 3-36 months, twelve months after the regulation is published.

With the development planned by Beagle Systems and AIRMO, the two organisations are well-positioned and poised to play a significant role in monitoring and reducing methane emissions, which can be more harmful to the environment than CO2 emissions.
The new service will enable big emitters, particularly in the oil and gas sectors, to meet new EU legislative requirements.
AIRMO, a methane measurement satellite maker, has developed an innovative sensor that will be launched into space mounted on a satellite to make methane measurements from space.
The sensor developed by AIRMO was initially designed to measure from over 100 kilometres away and provide better measurement efficiency at a shorter distance. Beagle Systems plans to use this mechanism to acquire data at low altitudes.

This adoption will allow for the more efficient collection of precise and accurate data compared to previous methods and will also allow customers to receive the service.
Oliver Lichtenstein, CEO and co-founder of Beagle Systems, said in the release, “The collaboration with AIRMO represents a significant step forward in our mission to make precise environmental data accessible.”
He added, “By combining our market-leading geospatial data services with AIRMO’s innovative sensor technology, we not only offer our customers improved data quality but also help them meet the stricter requirements of the new EU methane regulation.”
