Nokian Tyres Oyj, a Finnish tyre manufacturer, has signed a major power purchase agreement (PPA) with Enery, a Vienna-based renewables company. The agreement will provide clean energy for Nokian’s new passenger car tyre factory in Oradea, Romania, which is set to begin operations next year. This move is part of the company’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.
Clean Energy for Sustainable Production
Under the terms of the 11-year agreement, Enery will supply nearly 80 GWh of clean energy annually. The energy will come from a new 50 megawatt solar farm located in southern Romania. The solar farm is expected to start operations in 2025, supporting Nokian Tyres’ vision of building a fossil-fuel-free factory.
The deal represents a significant step towards greener manufacturing practices. Nokian Tyres will be one of the first tyre makers in the region to operate entirely on renewable energy.

Enery Expands Its Clean Energy Portfolio
This agreement marks Enery’s sixth power purchase agreement (PPA) in Romania and its 12th in Central and Eastern Europe. Enery’s portfolio currently generates nearly 700 GWh of clean electricity from 490 MW. With a pipeline of over 8 GW of projects across 11 countries, Enery is a leading player in the renewable energy market.
In October, Enery also launched a 51.4-MWp solar farm in northwest Romania. This solar farm includes a battery energy storage system (BESS), further enhancing the stability and reliability of the clean energy supply.
