Three Greenpeace activists will face charges for climbing onto Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s home in protest against the government’s plan to grant numerous North Sea oil and gas extraction licenses.
Mathieu Soete (38), Amy Rugg-Easey (33), and Alexandra Wilson (32) will each face one charge of criminal damage. They are scheduled to appear in court on March 21, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
Protesters covered Sunak’s Yorkshire home with large black sheets while he was away from England.
Greenpeace stated the protest was peaceful and they will dispute the charges.
“The protest took place at one of Sunak’s several houses, and great care was taken to make sure it was staged while the family were holidaying in California,” the campaign group said.
