Today, New Energy Blue, a leading clean-energy developer specializing in low-carbon biofuels and biochemicals from crop residues, announced the establishment of its new subsidiary, New Energy Chemicals. This strategic move aims to advance the company’s Decarbonizing America agenda by diversifying its portfolio and expanding into the production of biobased ethylene and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
In its initial phase, New Energy Chemicals will focus on producing American-sourced biobased ethylene to facilitate Dow’s production of low-carbon plastics. This endeavor underscores New Energy Blue’s commitment to supporting domestic industries while promoting sustainability. Furthermore, the company plans to expand its operations at the Port Lavaca, Texas, facility to manufacture SAF, addressing the growing demand for cleaner aviation fuels.
Albury Fleitas, President of New Energy Blue, expressed enthusiasm for the new subsidiary’s potential to drive exponential growth in biobased fuels and chemicals. He emphasized the importance of flexibility in process design and business operations, allowing the company to adapt to market dynamics and achieve its lowest-carbon targets consistently.
CEO Thomas Corle highlighted the significance of New Energy Chemicals in providing end-to-end solutions for the American bioenergy revolution. He emphasized the company’s ability to mitigate market risks, seize growth opportunities, and deliver sustainable energy solutions across various sectors.
The launch of New Energy Chemicals follows the upcoming commencement of operations at the New Energy Freedom biomass refinery in Mason City, Iowa. This facility will convert local corn stalks into highly decarbonized cellulosic ethanol and clean lignin, contributing to efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable materials.
New Energy Blue’s ambitious plans include expanding its biomass refineries across America’s agricultural heartland and attracting significant investments to build additional facilities. By harnessing crop residues to produce billions of gallons of highly decarbonized ethanol, the company aims to make a substantial impact on carbon emissions reduction.
Looking ahead, New Energy Chemicals is poised to capitalize on both domestic and international demand for SAF, aligning with global initiatives to combat climate change. Through strategic partnerships and innovative technologies, New Energy Blue is paving the way for sustainable decarbonization with far-reaching global implications.
