California and the US West still confront dangerous wind gusts and heavy snow until the week’s start. Additionally, high winds increase fire dangers in the central US, notably in Texas, where the largest fire remains partially contained.
National Weather Service meteorologist David Rowe reports 4 to 8 feet (1.2 to 2.4 meters) of snow in California’s Sierra Nevada range, shutting down mountain roads, with more snow anticipated.
The California Department of Transportation announced the closure of numerous roads connecting California and Nevada, including sections of Interstate 80 and state highways 4 and 88, as stated on its website.
Amtrak has also posted about cancelling trains passing through the area on social media.
“It is definitely not as bad as it’s been for the past two days,” Rowe said, but the additional snow “will impact travel and recovery efforts from the blizzard.”
Meanwhile, the Smokehouse Creek fire in Texas has only partially been contained.
