UAE grapples with aftermath of record-breaking storm, flights disrupted
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues to confront the aftermath of a historic storm that struck earlier this week, severely impacting daily life and travel.
Dubai’s airport, a vital transportation hub, faced significant disruptions with flooded runways leading to flight diversions, delays, and cancellations. Although inbound flights at Terminal 1 resumed, operations remain hampered.
Emirates, the airport’s primary carrier, postponed passenger check-ins by nine hours due to the ongoing challenges. Flooded roads impeded food delivery to stranded passengers, exacerbating the situation.

The storm, described as the most severe in 75 years, caused extensive flooding, resulting in fatalities and widespread gridlock. Climate experts attribute the intensity of the storm to human-induced climate change, emphasizing the heightened risk of extreme weather events in the future.
Government directives have urged employees and students to stay home until roads are cleared. Despite denial of cloud seeding operations by UAE authorities, President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan pledged support for affected families and ordered assessments of the storm’s impact.
