His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Gareth Bayley and Deputy Chairman of The New Urban Communities Authority Eng. Amin Ghoneim signed a Sustainable Cities and Infrastructure Memorandum of Understanding on 6 February in Cairo.
The new partnership aims to boost cooperation in developing sustainable cities and infrastructure in Egypt.
A joint working group will meet twice a year in London and Cairo. The group will comprise representatives from the countries’ government bodies and industries. They will exchange technical knowledge, training, expertise and best practices in prioritising, financing, and managing infrastructure projects.
The MoU aims to bring together the strengths of both countries and support infrastructure projects with international quality and meeting sustainability standards.
British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley said in a release: “This agreement reinforces our commitment to sustainable development, fostering economic growth, and attracting foreign investment into the Egyptian infrastructure sector. It sets yet another example of a stronger and growing green partnership between both our countries while boosting bilateral trade relations. I am confident this collaboration will pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient future for Egypt.”
The MoU also builds upon both the countries’ commitment to the UN’s sustainable development goals and action on climate change. This new agreement helps both nations advance sustainable development objectives and address climate change through mitigation and adaptation efforts using cutting-edge climate technologies.
