The Bremen Cotton Exchange and Fibre Institute Bremen are gearing up for the 37th International Cotton Conference in Bremen from March 20 to 22, expecting up to 400 attendees from 40 countries across the cotton supply chain. The event will feature keynote speeches on a range of topics, with a primary focus on the impact of European Union (EU) political guidelines on the industry.
This year’s conference will delve into pressing questions surrounding the EU’s ‘Green Deal’ and the planned supply chain act’s implications for industry competitiveness and transparency. Notably, discussions will explore the effectiveness of these measures amidst concerns about bureaucratic hurdles for companies.
One of the keynote speakers, Veronica Bates Kassatly, will address the Ecodesign Regulation for Sustainable Products (ESPR) introduced by the EU, shedding light on its alignment with sustainability goals. Additionally, experts from Commerzbank AG will discuss strategies for maintaining competitive positions amidst regulatory changes and societal shifts towards sustainability.
Colin Iles, Executive Manager at Glencore/Viterra, will provide insights into current and future challenges facing the global cotton textile industry, highlighting disruptions in supply chains due to geopolitical conflicts and their impact on procurement costs.
The conference will also feature perspectives from Nicolas Rubio, Agricultural Counselor at the US Embassy in Berlin, offering analysis of EU developments from an American viewpoint. Hubertus Lohner from Airbus Operations will present on decarbonization efforts in the mobility sector, showcasing research initiatives contributing to sustainability.
